Karoo Creations

FINALLY. A TRULY ADJUSTABLE, HYPOALLERGENIC PILLOW.

Karoo Wool Pillows

Filled with pure Karoo wool, these uniquely designed pillows are fully adjustable thanks to our double cover system. By simply removing wool from the cleverly concealed zip, you can get that perfect sleeping position, as well as reduced sweating and heat retention in your pillow. With wool being keratin based, the filling is totally hypoallergenic too.
Looking for a firmer pillow that won’t cause you to sweat excessively or aggravate your allergies? Our Karoo wool pillow delivers consistent, well-balanced support for your head and neck. Hand-filled with 100% pure wool, it’s a safe, hypoallergenic, and non-toxic choice for sleep. Naturally comfortable and designed to promote restful sleep all year round. Our unique side zip design allows easy cleaning, easy fluffing of the pure wool filling and customizing of the fill to meet your perfect sleeping position. This is THE dream sleeper pillow!
  • Hypoallergenic – natural and non-toxic filling and casing
  • Breathable – moisture wicking to increase airflow around your head
  • Mould & mite resistant – less moisture for mites to survive & thrive
  • Comfortable – fine, soft fibres that keep their natural bounce
  • Eco-friendly – besides the zip, no chemicals or plastics are used
  • Double encased – remove the outer zipped casing and wash with your pillowcase. Remove the inner casing that contains the wool and air once or twice a quarter. It’s always recommended that a pillow protector be used.
Each pillow is lovingly handcrafted by skilled artisans, a process that takes time and care. We normally ship pillows within 3 business days.

Air your duvet, mattress topper, or pillows in indirect sunlight every 2–3 months to keep them fresh. Turn once during airing and limit direct sun exposure to 60–90 minutes, as excessive heat can cause shrinkage.

Every few months, vacuum your duvet insert or mattress topper to circulate air through the fibres and reduce moisture build-up. Occasionally leave your bed unmade in the morning to allow overnight moisture to evaporate.

Always use a duvet cover, pillow protector, and pillowcase to protect your bedding.

Do not machine wash or dry clean your wool bedding. Domestic washing machines and dry-cleaning chemicals can permanently shrink, felt, or harden the fibres. Our wool is not pre-shrunk, and the fibres retain their natural memory, making them especially sensitive to heat, agitation, and chemicals.

For minor marks, spot clean only using a very gentle soap such as Boereseep. A diluted hydrogen peroxide solution or Londa Bio Oxy Bleach may also be used. Dry the area gently with a hairdryer.

For deeper cleaning of a soiled area:

  • Fill a bath or bucket with cool water and dissolve a mild detergent before use.
  • Suitable options include Woollite, Boereseep, Londa Bio Oxy Bleach, or Londa Bio Laundry Powder.
  • Do not use fabric softener.
  • Submerge only the affected area and soak for about an hour.
  • Gently move the area in the water without rubbing, wringing, or agitating.
  • Rinse using water at the same temperature to avoid felting.
  • Press out excess water gently and air dry flat, out of direct sunlight, until completely dry.

Our pillows feature a zippered outer casing with a removable inner wool sleeve. The outer casing can be washed separately, while the wool filling may be refreshed in sunlight for 1–2 hours. Do not wash or dry clean the wool itself. For personalised comfort, you may remove some wool filling and store it in a breathable cotton bag or pillowcase.

Avoid exposing your bedding to prolonged direct sunlight, damp conditions, or extreme temperatures.

When not in use, always store your duvet, mattress topper, or pillows in a breathable cotton bag — never plastic. Do not vacuum pack wool bedding.

Tips for Humid Climates

  • Use a dehumidifier where possible.
  • Air wool-filled items more frequently.
  • Vacuum duvet inserts and mattress toppers regularly to improve airflow through the fibres.
  • While wool naturally resists mould and mildew, regularly check your bed base or slats for any signs of moisture or mould growth.
The inner 100% cotton case is stuffed with 100% Karoo wool, and enclosed in a white 233 threadcount downproof cover with a side zip. The outer cover is top stitched around the edge to give a neatly finished edge. Both the inner and outer covers can be washed in your domestic washing machine.

Pillows are the most underestimated part of our nightly sleep rituals. The wrong pillow can cause neck pain, allergies, headaches and overheating.

A Karoo Creations pillow, filled with a luxurious mix of pure wool, has a very unique design:

  • Re-fluffable… you open the zip on the side and refluff the filling. No more sunken spots in the middle of the pillow.
  • Washable… remove the filling and pop the cover into the washing machine. Always pair with a pillowcase and protector.
  • Adjustable… take out or put in as much filing as you need to get your perfect firmness.
  • Hypoallergenic… our natural fibre filling is naturally dust mite resistant. This means no red eyes, sneezing or allergic reactions to the dust mite faeces.
  • Temperature regulating… the natural structure of wool will keep your head at the perfect sleeping temperature.

Karoo Creations brings you a pillow inspired by the heritage of South Africa. More than a simple wool pillow, each pillow represents authenticity, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the land from which it comes.

Made locally using ethically sourced South African sheep wool, our pillows are created with care for both people and the environment. Our supplier uses gentle, sustainable processing methods rather than harsh chemical treatments commonly used in commercial wool production.

As a result, you may notice traces of natural veld matter carded into the fibres. These subtle remnants are not imperfections, but evidence of genuine wool handled with minimal processing — preserving the character, texture, and integrity of the material in its most natural form.

Love love love our new pillows! I have been searching for a pillow that is firm enough but doesn’t make me hot and sweaty….and after several years and many other pillows, I have found the one!

The wait for my pillow was worth it. I used the pillow for about 2 weeks before writing this review. I no longer wake up with neck pain and a blocked nose which I suffered for so long when I had a feather pillow. It also reduced the night sweats in my head and neck.

I used to sleep on one of those memory foam pillows for years. And they get so hot, especially in summer. Changing to a wool pillow has been life-changing for me, I sleep sooo much better. And I love that you can unzip it to take some of the filling out, cause I prefer a flatter pillow. Thank you Karoo Creations Jackie Boshoff

I use the pure wool pillows to decorate my bed - they look beautiful, yet seem higher than my neck. To avoid straining the neck, I supplement with my old flatter pillows.
